Why eat naturally raised meats?

April 21st, 2009 · No Comments · diet, food

Think meat is bad for you? Think again. Meat, if raised properly, is actually very healthy. It contains healthy fats and amino acids that we need to thrive.

People always ask me what I eat, and often they assume that because I eat healthy food that I’m a vegetarian. I’m not. While vegetarianism works for many people, I’ve discovered that it does not work over the long term for my body type.

What I do is eat foods that are as close to nature as possible – that includes healthy, organic and naturally-raised meats. I don’t take any prescription drugs unless absolutely necessary, and I rarely use over-the-counter drugs. And I don’t want them in my foods, either. If you want to know why, this you tube video explains it pretty well:

The problem is that the meat that we usually get in the super market conventionally farmed. They feed the animals unnatural corn-based diets and dose them with cocktails of antibiotics and steroids to make them grow faster. They live in crowded quarters and are sick most of their short lives.

Naturally raised meats used to be difficult to find, but it’s getting easier. US Wellness Meats sells quality grassland meat products that you can get delivered straight to your front door.

If you live in New York City, the Union Square Greenmarket in New York has many great sources for naturally raised meats and fish, including:
