You're in charge

As children, all we want to do is grow up and be in charge of our own lives.
When my sister and I were kids, one of our favorite phrases was,
“you’re not the boss of me!” Actually, our parents were pretty much the bosses of us at the time. But the way we put that affirmation out into the universe was our way of being proactive with the power that we had.
Stephen Covey, author of the classic Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,
says that habit #1 is to be proactive. By growing yourself, becoming proactive and taking responsibility, you are more easily able to move in the direction of what you want.
Being proactive feels good. Besides doing what you think is the “right” thing to do, you know that when you’re taking responsibility, you’re moving closer to achieving your goals. When you’ve trained 2 more times per week than you used to, you know that you’re more likely to finish the race with a faster time. When you pass on the slice of chocolate cake, you’re that much closer to feeling awesome when you fit into your skinny jeans. When you wake
up early to write a scene of your screenplay, you know that you’re that much closer to seeing it on the screen in your local movie theater.
Are you getting what you want? If not, ask yourself if you’ve been proactive about going for it. If you don’t like the results that you’re getting, it is your responsibility to make changes to do things differently. Others will help you along the way, and you’ll be given opportunities that will help you move closer to your goal, but you must act – and be proactive – to get you there.

How to turn dreams into reality

If you want to get what you want in life, it’s important to have an action plan to getting it. Without a plan, your wishes will remain dreams. With a plan, they turn into goals.
Stuart Wilde outlines a great action plan in his book “Miracles.” To make your miracles happen, first you must write out the exact conditions you want, in order of importance. Once this is completed, follow these steps:
1. Read your list 3 times per day – once when you rise, once in the middle of the day, and once before bed
2. Meditate on your miracles from time to time, and know that Universal Law has received your order and is about to deliver.
3. Maintain silence. Talking about your miracles dissipates the energy drastically. Therefore you cannot share your miracles with others until they happen.
4. Always act and think about your miracles as though you already have the conditions you desire.
5. Be open to the inner promptings of the unlimited power source as it instructs you in ways of getting what you want. Realize that the Universal Law has to deliver in the physical plane where you can make use of it. Your heart’s desire can come from anywhere, so do not limit your field of expectation. Remain open and flexible at all times.
6. Smile a lot – the first miracle is on its way!
While all of these steps are important, I think the most important is #5. Sometimes when we want something to happen, we picture it happening in a certain way. But there may be many ways to get to the same end goal. If you are not open to all possibilities, you may end up delaying your arrival to where you want to be.
The other thing that he does not state as clearly is taking action. It is important to put your wishes out into the universe and focus on them every day, but you still have to do things to achieve your goals. Don’t just wish for a million dollars and wait for it to appear in your bank account – do things that will attract those dollars. When you receive the guidance, take it and act on it.

Working through your fear

It was Franklin Deleno Roosevelt who said the famous and profound statement, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Truly, this can be more debilitating than anything else that can happen to us.
Many people who know me think of me as someone who’s calm, cool and collected. But I must confess that I, too, get overwhelmed with fear sometimes. In fact, it happened today – and I found myself suddenly overwhelmed and teary eyed on a street corner in public.
I panicked at first. It was out of control and I felt lost. So many people around me have been stressed and worried, and I had absorbed this energy and was now releasing it. Then I slowly worked through my fear and watched it evolve. And I remembered an affirmation from Louise Hay that is particularly healing for fear:
“I am safe in the Universe and All Life loves and supports me.”
If you feel life spinning out of control, and you are fearful of what’s happening, repeat this phrase to help you heal your fear. If you do it on a regular basis, the fear won’t take over and it will easily disappear.
